Covent Garden

Covent GardenCovent Garden is now one of the most popular areas to visit in London. Its name was originally Convent Garden as it was the grounds of the Abbey or Convent of St Peter Westminster. It was previously best known as a flower market, but when this was moved to Vauxhall South London in the 1980s, the buildings were then used as an indoor market, with a number of restaurants, pubs and quality shops. The whole area has become a pedestrian area and is now a magnet for street performers, tourists and locals who enjoy shopping in the vibrant cosmopolitan atmosphere with its narrow streets. The Royal Opera House is situated in Covent Garden and it is also within walking distance of a number of other theatres.
