O2 Dome

The O2 London was originally known as the Millennium Dome before its corporate rebranding. The Dome was built to house the flagship exhibition commemorating the 2000 / Third Millenium celebrations. It was designed by Richard Rogers. The 12 100m towers represent the 12 months of the year and also the 12 hours of Greenwich Mean Time, as the dome is located in North Greenwich. The dome is circular and the diameter is 365 metres representing the 365 days of the year. The dome has more of a tent structure with a glass fibre fabric being the cover.

The Millennium Dome project did get a lot of criticism durings its construction, partly due to its spiralling costs and other political arguments, so that when the exhibition opened there was a less enthusiatic reponse than expected. The dome has since passed into private ownership hand has become one of the world's top music venues in addition to housing cinemas and restaurants.
